Barinder S. Ahluwalia,  a longtime Berryessa resident, passed away on December 20, 2022 at the age of 86.  Barinder was born in India on May 30, 1936. Barinder immigrated to the United States in 1988, found a job with Santa Clara County and then retired in 2007.

After his retirement, he dedicated his life to public service and was passionate about improving the quality of life for his community in District 4.

Recently, he was appointed to the City of San Jose’s Planning Commission and began his term on July 1, 2022 and would have served until June 30, 2026.  Over the years, he has been active on several other boards and commissions, including San Jose’s Parks and Recreation Commission, the San Jose Greenprint Update Steering Committee and the Santa Clara County Roads Commission.

His community activism also extended to the local cricket community.  He spent over 3 decades helping to grow and expand the City of Santa Clara Cricket Club.  He currently was serving as the Club’s Secretary.  In addition, he served on the Board of Directors for the Northern California Cricket Association.

Finally, Barinder was a longtime member of the Berryessa Citizens Advisory Council and spent much time supporting its efforts to ensure that community projects were completed for the benefit of Berryessa residents.

Barinder will be remembered as a friend and mentor by the many persons whose lives he touched.  He was truly admired and appreciated for his kindness, generosity of spirit, passion for working to make his community a better place, and genuine capacity to share his time and talents with others.

Barinder once said that he is “full of gratitude doing public service.”

My team and I would like to express our deepest condolences to the Ahluwalia family.  He was a notable member of our community and will be greatly missed.
