Are you wondering what “placemaking” is all about? If you’ve participated in San José’s popular Viva CalleSJ open streets program – that’s placemaking. Have you attended any of our Viva Parks summer events? That’s placemaking too. Or maybe you’ve joined any of our free activations at St. James Park or Plaza de Cesar Chavez. Yep, you guessed it – placemaking again.
Placemaking inspires people to reimagine and reinvent public spaces within the heart of every community. Using the theory of placemaking, PRNS provides residents with a hands-on opportunity to build community through dynamic and engaging programs. Look at the placemaking opportunities PRNS has lined up for you and your community.
Viva CalleSJ is an "open streets" event, based on the global “Ciclovia” concept where for one day a few roads are opened to people and closed to cars. Streets become “paved parks” where residents can run, walk, bike, skate, and play. People of all ages and abilities can come out and participate in recreational activities, social services, cultural events, and explore San José like never before. Visit the Viva CalleSJ website to get details about our next event.
Viva Parks is a series of free events focused on health and wellness resources, physical activitiy, and community engagement. We do this by connecting people to people, building civic pride, visually transform the park with positive programming, increasing park usage, and by bringing resources to the neighborhood. Want to know where Viva Parks will be this season? Check out the Viva Parks flyer for a full list of this season’s events.
